The Heart of Rewari’s Heritage

Rewari is a town nestled in the southern part of Haryana, India. It has a rich historical background that dates back to ancient times.Rewari is a town where time-honoured traditions meet the pulse of the present. Under the rule of King Hemu, the last Hindu king of India, Rewari became a major producer of brass and copper goods, including kitchenware and building materials. For over two centuries, the clang of metal has echoed through its streets, a testament to the enduring craft of the Thatheras. This community of artisans, with their roots stretching back 200 years, has shaped brass and copper into vessels of daily life and art. At UrbanWari, we celebrate this rich history, bringing the legacy of Rewari's artisans to the world.

Thathera Community in Rewari

Among the communities that call Rewari home is the Thathera community. Known for their traditional occupation of crafting brass and copper utensils, the Thatheras have been an integral part of Rewari since the 19th century. Their craftsmanship is so renowned that in 2014, the craft of the Thathera community of Jandiala Guru, Punjab, was included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists. Our Thathera community, the heart and soul of UrbanWari, are the torchbearers of this unique craftsmanship. Their extraordinary skills in shaping brass and copper have been passed down through generations, keeping the legacy alive. They don't just create products, they narrate stories of their heritage, one creation at a time.
